IORUX RESTORATIONS conservation & restoration studio undertakes a wide range and complexity of conservation and restoration work including consolidation, cleaning, relining, filling, retouching, varnishing etc., for artworks on canvas, cardboard, metal, paper, board and wood.
The treatment on the paintings is carried out, using only museum standard conservation methods and methodologies established by recognized institutes of conservation worldwide.
CONSERVATION AND RESTORATION OPERATIONS FOR EASEL PAINTINGS
- Painting dust removal – face, verso;
- General or local consolidation of the detachments and of the detachment tendencies of the painting layer, strengthening the cleaves;
- Fixing the painting layer detached from the upholding (support);
- Strengthening the color film on preparation;
- Protection of the paint layer for the interventions at the support (facing);
- Strengthening the cardboards at corners or in the areas with detachments of the paper compounds of the cardboards;
- Aligning the deformed cardboard by smooth moistening and applying the hot-cold squeezers;
- Removing the old linings;
- Removing the old patches and completions;
- Cleansing the paint layer – removing the old photo-chemical deteriorated browned varnishes that totally change the original chromatics; removing the superficial and adherent dirt; removing the false varnishes or of those oil-based; removing the non-corresponding retouches; removing the over-paintings and the improper interventions;
- Removing the oil or gypsum inappropriate fillers from prior interventions;
- Removing the art work from the inappropriate stretcher;
- Lining art work edges;
- Stretching the art work on properly manufactured stretchers, with mobile corner joints, with slopes, wedges and crossing bars;
- Correct tension of the canvas on the stretcher;
- Filling up the old stretcher with wedges, proper tension of the canvas on strecher;
- Pulling the works in paper bands;
- Cleansing the versos;
- Lining the canvas / cardboard supports;
- Manufacturing the lining temporary stretcher;
- Cleansing the verso of the canvas;
- General varnishing;
- Filling the lacunas paint layer and imitation of the surface aspect;
- Insulation of the fillers;
- Chromatical integration in imitative manner;
- Final varnishing.
- Framing, protecting the paintings versos with non-acid cardboard, setting up the fixing systems.
